A founding member of Toronto folk/roots band The Boxcar Boys, Rob played tuba on every track of their third album "Cicada Ball" before departing for LA this summer. The band released the album at Toronto's Burdock Music Hall on September 11th and is soon embarking on a tour of the east coast of Canada.
Here are what the critics are saying about this new album:
"a high-energy and musically accomplished roots ensemble....Strong group originals fit alongside spirited versions of traditional tunes." New Canadian Music
"almost unbridled joy...will take you back in time to an era when people escaped the drudgery of everyday life with bathtub gin, a hot jazz band and a dance partner who kept you on your feet until you could barely move.... very easy on the head but may well be hard on the feet because you’ll want to do some stompin’ while you’re hollerin’." The Guardian (PEI)
"I am super fond of Cicada Ball... Awesome tunes! good company on a lazy late-summer afternoon." Now This Sound
"Everyone knows that Canada is world-renowned for its jazz scene. What? Well, after listening to The Boxcar Boys it should be... a delightful throwback to the simpler days of jazz...incredible musicianship" Yorkton This Week
