The Vancouver Chamber Choir, longtime collaborators with Rob, premired a new commissioned work at their annual Youth and Music concert at Ryerson United Church in Vancouver on April 24th, longtime music director Jon Washburn conducting.
The new work, "Sing no Sad Songs for Me", is an a capella setting of the famous Christina Rossetti poem "When I am Dead, My Dearest".
This is the fourth time the Vancouver Chamber Choir has commissioned a choral work by Rob. The fruitful relationship dates back to 2005 when Rob won the choir's annual Young Composers' Competition with his choral work "Virtue", one of his first completed compositions.
Directed by the young Venezuelan-Canadian director Jorge Thielen Armand, the short documentary FLOR DE LA MAR is a stunning portrait of a remote island community of fishermen holding an archeological treasure under threat from a corrupt Venezualan government.
Shortly after, the film won the Jury Prize for Best Short Film at the Cine Las Americas Festival in Austin, Texas. Other festival screenings include the Sarasota Film Festival in Florida and the Green Film Festival in Seoul.
The Lemon Bucket Orkestra released sophomore album "Moorka" to critical acclaim.
As the band's long-time sousaphone player, Rob participated in the five-day recording sessions in a remote barn in rural Ontario before departing the band to focus full-time on his composing career.
