Howdy!
Festival recap time! Northern Lights fest in Sudbury was a great time for sure. We had a wonderful mainstage set on Friday, had some fun in workshops with our TO friends in Drumhand and Jaron Freeman-Fox and the Opposite of Everything... then the real wacky-times came on Saturday when the festival sloted us at an off-site venue, a local pub called Townehouse. We shared a bill with Sudbury band Tympanic. A real fun show. Afterwards we started the party on the street:
(cheers to Kevin Little for the video!)..
Well, I admit, I had a few beers in me at this point.. I thought it might be a good idea to jump on Karl's back and see the crowd a little better. By the way, the guy playing the guitar is our new friend Daniel from Montreal's Canailles, a super awesome party band. They're playing the Silver Dollar on July 27th, it'd be outright silly to miss.
Skip forward to the next weekend. Blissfest on a beautiful farm land by Harbour Springs Michigan. What a great festival! We were amongst a great and diverse bunch of acts that ranged from fellow Torontonians New Country Rehab (another band that you really ought to check out!) to early 90s hip-hop group Arrested Development. Again the mainstage set was lovely, but the real magic was on the 3rd stage - a little porch-y stage in the woods by the campgrounds. Piggy-back trombone and clarinet seemed to work well the first time I thought we'd try it again! Here's Summertime for ya:
(thanks to our friend and Bliss soundman Andy for this vid!)
We finish our studio-time for our upcoming album this next weekend. Then the first weekend of August we're off to Blueskies festival! One of my favs for sure!
